Heading to Switzerland: My first international wedding

A major milestone reached: my very first wedding abroad.

On Friday 25 September, I set up my cameras in Geneva to capture the big day of Ambika and Rahul, a wonderful couple who came all the way from New Delhi.

India is a country that has held a very special place for me since June 2024, thanks to someone who is extremely dear to me. So when this wedding came up, I saw it as much more than just a job.

A day abroad, my English put to the test

This wedding was also an opportunity to test my English in real conditions, with clients and guests from the other side of the world. In writing, I am comfortable. Speaking live, under pressure, is a different exercise altogether.

I managed to make myself understood to direct every step of the day, but not without a fair amount of concentration to find the right words at the right time. Another experience confirming, once again, that a wedding never unfolds exactly as planned, and that adapting on the spot is part of the job.

A civil ceremony in an exceptional setting

The day began with the civil ceremony at the Eaux-Vives district Town Hall,in Geneva. A truly impressive venue, one I would gladly call the little Geneva Versailles: ornate ceilings, gilding, majestic staircases... a setting that has nothing to envy the finest French town halls.

For me, someone who loves working with wide shots in beautiful venues, this was a real playground. Every angle of this room brought something different, between the architecture, the natural light streaming through the windows and the guests' emotion set against this backdrop.

A couple session at Parc des Bastions

We then headed to Parc des Bastions,in Geneva, for Ambika and Rahul's couple photo session. A green setting right in the heart of the city, with its tall trees, its pathways and its calm, despite the immediate proximity of the urban bustle.

The session took place in late morning. To preserve softness on the faces despite an already high sun, I chose to work in the shaded areas offered by the park's trees, a choice that keeps the light even and flattering while still making the most of the setting. Ambika and Rahul were able to take a breath, just the two of them, away from the busy day.

A festival of colours

The most striking part of the day was undoubtedly the traditional Indian outfits worn by the guests. Vibrant sarees, golden embroidery, elaborate jewellery: a festival of colours, fabrics and details.

A real treat to photograph for me, as my work is precisely built around colourful, bright and contrasted images. Where many photographers try to soften colours, I look for them, I embrace them and I enhance them. This day gave me exactly the playground I needed for that.

Thank you to Ambika and Rahul

A huge thank you to Ambika and Rahul for their trust and their warm welcome. A first experience beyond our borders that I won't forget any time soon.

A wedding photographer who travels everywhere

This wedding in Geneva is not an isolated case in the way I work. As an international wedding photographer,I travel all over France, Europe and internationally to cover your weddings, wherever you have chosen to hold them.

Planning a wedding abroad or far from my home base? Let's talk about it.
