Time spent working on this report: 67 hours
Back from the Drôme!
Back from the Drôme!
From 14 to 17 September, I took part in the wedding workshop organised by All About Tomorrow.
I have been a professional photographer since 2007, first part-time, then full-time since 2019. Even so, continuing to train remains essential. Questioning myself, observing other ways of working, testing new approaches: that is what keeps me from going round in circles.
And in the end, it is future couples who benefit from it.
An engagement session at Golden Hour
The workshop started on Monday evening with the engagement sessions, meaning couple photos taken before the wedding.
The first one was done with Clarisse and her partner, playing the role of the future couple for the workshop. The meeting was set for Golden Hour, that moment at the end of the day when the light becomes warm and low.
The goal: to look for backlighting and warm tones, making the most of that short window when the light is at its most beautiful.
This is also why I systematically recommend that my couples organise their couple photos around sunset time. It changes everything.
A Blue Hour session
Right after, a completely different register: Blue Hour.
It is that short moment just after sunset, when the light fades and the sky takes on a blue tint.
With much less natural light, you have to adapt your settings and your equipment to convey the atmosphere of dusk. A very good moment of practice, and an image mood that is still rarely seen in wedding reportage.
A full wedding at Domaine de la Vivande in Marsanne
On the second day, we covered a full wedding with Solène and Anthony, at Domaine de la Vivande in Marsanne.
Solène and Anthony are really married, but this day was organised specifically for the workshop. The principle: to document a wedding from A to Z, from the preparations to the evening, exactly as during a real assignment.
Everything was brought together to make it realistic: a wedding venue,a wedding planner, decoration, a caterer, a florist, a designer dress and suit. A real team of suppliers, serving a real day.
It is the ideal exercise to test new methods, refine your way of working and optimise the management of your day.
What this changes for you
A workshop like this one is not only about settings.
It is also about rethinking how to showcase a venue. In a beautiful estate, wide shots come into their own: they tell the story of the setting, the decoration, the atmosphere, and not only the faces.
It is also about being more involved in the organisation of your day. Advising on the schedule, on the ideal time for couple photos, on the placement of the outdoor ceremony in relation to the sun: these are details that make the difference on the big day.
Hiring a professional wedding photographermeans entrusting a day that cannot be replayed. You might as well choose someone who keeps learning.
Thank you
