Photographing a friend’s wedding (who is also a photographer)
In early September, I photographed Marine and Marino's wedding..
A particular wedding, in more ways than one. Marino is a photographer himself, and a friend. Trusting me with his own day is a mark of confidence that touched me. When a photographer chooses another photographer for his wedding, he knows exactly what he is looking for. There is no room for approximation.
The preparations
The day started with the wedding preparations, each on their own side.
At the bride's, the usual joyful commotion: the last makeup and hair touch-ups, the glances in the mirror, the loved ones bustling around her.
At the groom's, a calmer atmosphere, between concentration and barely hidden impatience.
These are moments I particularly enjoy photographing. Nobody poses, everybody is busy, and that is exactly where the real expressions appear.
Parc du Manoir, a venue to work with
After the ceremony, we headed to Parc du Manoir in Chasse-sur-Rhône for the couple and group photos.
Let's be honest: the place was not easy. The park was not very clean, with quite a lot of bird droppings on the ground and on the furniture. And in several spots, the sun came through the trees and created patches of light on faces and outfits. That is not ideal: it shows, and you cannot fix everything in retouching.
So we had to look for the areas where the light stayed even, in full shade, and adapt the positioning accordingly. We eventually found the right spots, and the images are there.
That day, two other couples were also doing their photos in the park, each with their own photo and video team. Three weddings, three teams, one park, the same day: between us, we found the situation quite unusual. It just takes a bit of organisation not to all end up in the same place at the same time.
Cocktail hour and dinner at the Salle de l'Escale
The day ended at the Salle de l'Escale, in Grigny-sur-Rhône..
Cocktail, dinner and speeches. Laughter, emotion, and an atmosphere that stretched late into the evening.
Thank you both, Marine and Marino, for this day and for your trust.
